Biography

J. Davidson “Dusty” Porter serves as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Tulane University in New Orleans, a position he has held since July 2014. In this capacity, Dr. Porter is responsible for a division of 200 professional employees in the areas of Housing, Student Health, Student Resource and Support Services, Campus Life, Diversity & Intercultural Development, and Judicial Affairs. Dr. Porter holds a bachelor of arts in psychology from Emory University, a master of education in higher education and student affairs from the University of Vermont and a doctorate in college student personnel management from the University of Maryland, College Park. His doctoral dissertation on Leadership Self Efficacy and Identity Formation received a research award (1997) from the American College Personnel Association. He currently serves on the James Scott Academy Board for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

Before assuming his role Tulane, Dr. Porter served for eight years as vice president of student affairs at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), in Baltimore, Maryland. MICA is the nation’s oldest independent private college of art and design.

Earlier, Porter held professional positions at Emory University, the Metropolitan State College of Denver, the American Psychological Association and Accenture’s Change Management Division. He is active with the national LeaderShape organization.
